How to Share a List of Chrome Tabs With a Link

You have twelve tabs open for a project and a colleague, classmate or client needs the same list. Chrome has no simple "send these tabs" button, so most people paste addresses one by one into a message. Here are three ways to do it, from quickest to most flexible.

Option 1: paste the addresses

Copy each address into a message or document. It works for three or four tabs and gets tedious fast. The list also goes stale the moment you open or close a tab.

Option 2: a bookmark folder

Bookmark all open tabs into one folder and send the exported bookmarks file. The other person has to import it, and nothing updates after you send it.

Option 3: a KeepIt share link or live link

KeepIt gives you two kinds of link, and they behave differently:

  • Share link: the tabs you choose are packed inside the link itself. Anyone with the link can preview the list and add it to KeepIt.
  • Live link: a web page that shows the tabs you choose and updates when you change them. People can open it in any browser, with no account.

Create a live link

  1. Click the share button on a session, or use Share a link in a space.
  2. Choose Create a live link.
  3. Give it a title and tick the tabs to include.
  4. Press Create live link and copy the link straight away. For safety, KeepIt keeps only a scrambled version online, so the full link can only be copied again on the device that made it.

By default the page updates when you press Update now. To manage a link later, open Tools & Settings and choose My live links, where you can copy, update or revoke it.

What gets shared, and what doesn't

  • Only the tabs you tick are included.
  • Tabs for email, banking, login pages and localhost, and addresses containing words like token, key or password, start unticked.
  • A "clean address" option removes secret parts of web addresses before sending.
  • Notes are sent only if you tick them.
  • Revoking a link is always free and it stops working straight away.

Anyone who has the link can see the tabs you included, so look over the ticked list before you press Create.

People you share with can follow the list from Shared with me in KeepIt. A followed list refreshes every 15 seconds while that window is open, and no account is needed.

Keep your tab sessions safe

KeepIt saves your windows, keeps your tab groups intact and freezes idle tabs. Free to start.
